Short-term Rentals in Whistler

Whistler’s Short-Term Rental Rules

You may have heard that the BC short-term rental restrictions don’t apply in Whistler. While that’s true, it doesn’t mean anything goes here. In fact, Whistler has long enforced its own zoning and licensing requirements to regulate nightly rentals, and if you’re not aware of them, you could face serious setbacks.

In my experience, one of the biggest surprises for buyers is how detailed Whistler’s compliance checks can be. To get a business license for a short-term rental, for instance, the municipality will confirm that your property hasn’t had unauthorized renovations or structural changes. Miss that step, and you might not get approved at all.

Even with the provincial registry and administrative basics in place, local rules around use and zoning carry just as much weight. This is especially important in neighborhoods like Whistler Village or Creekside, where property types and permitted uses vary widely by zone.

If you’re thinking of renting nightly, the benefits are clear, but only if your property checks every box. Advantages include stronger occupancy rates, greater income potential, and better long-term resale value when compliance is seamless.

Email me and I’ll walk you through the zoning map, licensing steps, and any red flags upfront.
