Alright, we almost made it – only five weeks until the mountain opens! But what to do until then??
We like to call the time between Canadian Thanksgiving and opening day “Locals’ Season”. Because few(er) visitors are in town, there a lot of great offers around. Retail shops are selling their left-over turkey sale gear for next to nothing and restaurants are doing their famous shoulder season deals.
So, my first suggestion to pass the time till the mountain opens is… eat! There is an extensive list of restaurant deals at the end of this post!
But of course, life in this town is all about balance, how about some gym time to get those legs ready for the snow? There are some great boot camp style classes around that will keep you committed for a few weeks. My two personal favourites are KyleCamp by the ReAlignment Lab and BootyCamp with Cinta at Altitude Fitness.
And what about some culture? The Audain Art Museum has a great selection of events through out October and November. There is something for everyone, kids included. How about a Harry Potter Workshop (ages 10-16)?!
And of course we can’t forget about the big one… Cornucopia! One of Whistler’s signature events, celebrating food and drinks!
From November 9 – 19 you can chose from 70+ events under the following four categories: Signature Events, Drink Seminars, Culinary Stage Series, and Bar and Restaurant Events.
Insider tip: Love the event but maybe saving your funds for something else? Volunteer! I can speak from personal experience – this is the most fun event to volunteer (possibly because it involves wine..?).
You can sign up here, the organisers are happy about every volunteer, no matter how much time you can commit.
See you out there!
Here is a list of the current locals deals. Keep in mind… things change. So confirm with the restaurant before you go!
